A champion for a better future in Hamilton Mountain

Lisa Hepfner has been serving the community of Hamilton since her arrival in the city in 1999 to work as a news reporter. Her mission has always been to give people a voice and to give their stories a platform, and that work became even more effective after she was elected to the House of Commons in 2021.

Lisa was born in Nova Scotia, raised both in Dartmouth and Calgary, Alberta, and spent some early adult years in France and Honduras, where she learned to speak French and Spanish. She has undergraduate degrees in Political Science with a French minor (University of Calgary) and Journalism (then-Ryerson University) and a master’s degree in communications management (McMaster University).

After more than 20 years of daily news reporting, first at the Hamilton Spectator and then as a broadcast journalist at CHCH TV, Lisa feels deeply connected to the people of Hamilton. In 2011, she was named the YWCA Woman of Distinction for politics and public affairs, due to her efforts to understand and improve the lives of Hamilton's women, girls and gender-diverse people.

As a Parliamentarian, Lisa has ensured that Hamilton Mountain gets the attention and investment it deserves on the national stage. She has been a strong voice for affordable healthcare and childcare, empowering women, and strengthening journalism in our democracy. She is also the co-founder of the Steel Caucus for the 44th Parliament, ensuring this vital Hamilton industry continues to thrive.

Lisa is a mother, a gardener, a passionate reader of fiction, and a lover of quintessentially Canadian sports like skiing, skating and paddling.
